“Why do you choose to keep the standards of the church?”
“I choose to keep the standards of the church because without a doubt they make me a better person. The standards come from the Savior and are given to us as a protection. And they are concrete, attainable goals. They help us stay happy and free from the changing standards of society and world opinions. This world makes it hard to stand for something and feel good about it. But I know from experience that when I have chosen the world’s influence over God’s, I am an unhappy, different person than who I am meant to be. The standards of the church may not always be easy in every situation, but they are always worth it. I feel the most at peace when I am confidently standing for something, and choosing to keep the standards that I have covenanted to keep. Why would I choose to follow the “word of man”, who is forever changing their mind day by day? God’s standards never change. They have, and always will be the same. Which ultimately make them easier to follow because there is security in that.”
“Do you have a favorite hymn?”
“My favorite hymn is ‘Abide with Me; ‘Tis Eventide.’ It gives a beautiful message of hope. I think this hymn does a really good job of describing our current day that we live in. Darkness will always be present, but we have the free agency to choose to believe in a Savior who will always give us the hope that we need to carry on. He is always with us, especially in the darkness.”
