As a senior in high school who is straddling the pressures of today with my hopes for the future, my priority as I go through each day is to maintain feelings of peace and clarity despite the commotion. There are three main categories of my life that impact my overall state of mind: my spiritual, physical, and mental & emotional health. I call this my “triangle of health.”
A week ago, I was struggling to feel peace or clarity because my “triangle of health” was out of whack. I had had a couple of health issues and my body and spirit felt dimmed and fatigued. I decided to journal and figure out what I could do to regain balance. I started by drawing a representation of my current “triangle of health.” The shape I came up with wasn’t a triangle. The vertices of spiritual, physical, and mental health were not connected. The line connecting my spiritual health vertex wasn’t long enough to connect to my mental health vertex and the length of the line connecting my physical health vertex to my spiritual health vertex was too long. With that sketch, I realized that I needed to spend less energy worrying about my physical health and spend more time nourishing my spirit. Still, I was struggling to muster the courage to let go of my worry concerning my physical health.
In that instance, I noticed the lyrics to the EFY soundtrack playing in the background:
“He’s calling your name, He’s calling to you, arms open wide…”
I felt like the spirit had poured a bucket of cold water on me! It was so obvious. I was trying to balance my life on my own and I wasn’t including the Savior in the process. Without His loving guidance, I would never be able to feel peace or clarity. Those feelings come from Jesus Christ. His atonement allows us to be encompassed by peace.
So, I redrew my triangle with Jesus Christ in it. Surrounding my “triangle of health” was a circle that represented the Savior, the vertices of spiritual, physical, and mental & emotional health were encompassed by Him and shifted into positions where they could intersect one another. The Savior’s presence in my “triangle of health” balanced out my desires and held them in positions where they could complete the triangle.
I understand that involving the Savior in the balancing act of our day to day lives will not make challenges disappear, or make things perfect in our eyes. Rather, involving the Savior in each day helps us reposition our desires so there is room for the Savior to give us hope and peace throughout the day.
We are beloved daughters of our Heavenly Father. He loves us! Because He loves us, He sent His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to earth to complete the Atonement. The Atonement allows us to be perfectly understood by our Savior. He is calling to each of us with arms open wide. He wants to encompass our fears and provide us with peace. Because of my Savior, I am able to enjoy feelings of peace and clarity when the events in my own life don’t make sense. Involve Jesus Christ in your efforts to find peace and balance each day. I know He will direct you towards joy and peace if you let Him.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” ~John 14:27
How has involving Jesus Christ in your day to day life enabled you to feel more peace and balance?
