In our family, we have a favorite old Christmas story. As children, my grandpa and his brother made toys for their little sister one year when the family had not a dime to their name. They had to use old tumbleweeds to make a Christmas tree. But even in the midst of their destitute poverty, they had the true spirit of Christmas.
My brother has made a movie of this favorite story. He recruited all of the family to join in. My grandpa’s children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews re-create the tender experience from his childhood. My brother wrote all the original music, arranged the classic Christmas hymns, and performed it! It was a pleasure participating in this iconic story. I always wondered what that tumbleweed tree looked like. It was a seriously spiritual experience when I was able to decorate one just like my dear ancestors did.
I invite you to watch with this video your family. Remember the true reason for the season. And if you have an old family story about Christmas, discover it and record it. Even if it is a story from your own Christmas experiences, don’t let it be forgotten!
Merriest of Christmases, Ruby Girls!!!
