In these the latter-days, young women are constantly being bombarded by the expectations of the world. Hank Smith once talked about breaking up with the things of the world, which are: comparing, competing, and never being enough. He taught that chasing after the world’s approval is like being a hamster running in his little wheel, getting tired and working hard, but never getting anywhere. That talk changed my life (Hank Smith, if you are reading this, thank you and I love you). John 15:19 says “ If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” It may be hard sometimes to stay true to your standards in this world because people may tease you, or disapprove of you, or even hate you for it. Remember: Christ was perfect and was hated so much that He was put to death by the very people he suffered for. People hating you is not an indicator of who you are.
Your Heavenly Father knows your heart and He knows when you are trying your best to be righteous. If you ever need a pep talk that no one in the world can give you, pray or ask for a priesthood blessing. He is proud of you and wants to communicate with you. I was inspired by Hank Smith and John 15:19 to write the following poem:
His Prayer for You
My dear child,
I have not forsaken you
even if it feels like everyone
has abandoned you
I have not.
If you were of the world,
the world would love you,
But I have chosen you,
my precious daughter,
to fulfill a purpose that the world
can never understand.
The world may not value your grace,
or your love,
but I do.
You are my child
and I do not make mistakes.
There may be times when people or events
may make you feel as if the fight for good
has already been lost.
I do not lose.
Your worth is not determined by others
for I determined your worth before you were born.
Do not let the world make you hard
Fight for softness,
Some may see your gentle nature as a weakness
but it is your biggest strength.
Soft does not mean weak.
It means you were strong enough to not let the world change you.
I love you.
Even if everyone in the world seems against you and as if there will never be a light at the end of the tunnel, the tunnel was created by God, who loves you and has prepared an amazing life for you. Loneliness is a figment of your imagination because He is only a prayer away.
