How can I get my parents back to the temple?
You’ve asked a great question. There’s much you can do, but I don’t want you to put pressure on yourself or blame on yourself for your parents’ choices.
First, live the gospel. Learn of Christ and His Atonement. Pray, read the scriptures and keep the Spirit in your life. Remember you are a child of God and He loves you.
Second, go to the temple yourself as much as you can. Find friends to go with you and if that’s not possible, let your leaders know about your desire to attend the temple.
Third, dive into family history and find family names to take to the temple. There’s an undeniable spirit surrounding family history work and your entire family will feel it.
Finally, pray for your parents and talk to them about the temple, but don’t nag them. Most parents are even more resistant to lectures and nagging than teenagers– they don’t like to be told what to do!
If you do these things, I promise you will see miracles, but they might not be the miracles you expect. Your own life will be blessed by prayer, scripture reading, family history and temple work, even if your parents don’t return to the temple right away. It’s a little bit like preparing for a mission– studying the scriptures and learning self-reliance are great life skills even if you never serve a formal mission.
Remember, your Heavenly Father loves you and will help you. Your mom and dad love you too. Even if they don’t go back to the temple, look for their good qualities and recognize the many things they do for you.
I’ll be praying for you too.
