When it comes to sin and repentance there seems to be a lie going around—I am not worthy of forgiveness. Sure, the atonement works for others but not for me. Let me make this as loud and clear as I can over text—YOU ARE WORTHY OF FORGIVENESS! Now go look in the mirror, take a long look at your beautiful face, and say these words out loud, “I am my Heavenly Father’s daughter and He loves me. I am worth rescuing.”
You are worth rescuing! President Uchtdorf gave a fabulous talk in General Conference last spring about being worthy of rescue. He talks about the parable of the lost lamb and says, “…it is one of the most hopeful passages in all scripture.” (Luke 15: 1-7)
How often are we the lost lamb? Maybe we don’t feel good enough, included enough, spiritual enough, smart enough, etc. etc. etc. We lose sight of who we are and as Sister Elaine Dalton says, “Whose” we are. We feel lost and maybe stray away from what we know is right. If this is how you are feeling it may be time to get down on those knees and have a good chat with Heavenly Father. My Sunday School teacher growing up use to say, “Sinning will keep you from praying and praying will keep you from sinning.” YOU are worthy of rescue. It doesn’t matter if you are good enough, included enough, spiritual enough or smart enough. You qualify because you are loved. Simple as that.
Repentance may seem difficult and like a lot of work. Most things that are difficult and take a lot of work are usually worth it. You are glad you went through it to get the end result—just ask Alma the Younger.
We are human and we sin. However, we weren’t placed here to fail but to succeed. Make a plan and start today to recognize your worth because YOU are worthy of rescue.
